YUN JUNG DO
Author: DR HEWSON
Opposition leader, Dr John Hewson, recently praised a martial arts organization for having a philosophy which, if adopted by all Australian citizens, would make our country one of the most successful nations in the world.

Speaking at the recent opening of the new Yun Jung Do International Headquarters in Brisbane, Dr Hewson said the philosophy of 'pursuit of perfection' was needed to bring Australia out of its current depression.

As Patron of Yun Jung Do, Dr Hewson was officially opening the new centre at Carseldine, North Brisbane. In a ceremony attended by many political, business, religious and sporting dignitaries, guests were treated to colourful and entertaining cultural displays by six member nations of Yun Jung Do.

Dr Hewson was presented with an honourary 4th dan grey belt, the highest honour awarded to a patron, and a Do Bok (training uniform), by internationally renowned Grandmaster Young Ku Yun.

Yun Jung Do, meaning "The One True Way", is a revolutionary new style developed by Grandmaster Yun due to his dissatisfaction with the sports and tournament orientation of modern martial arts. The erosion of true martial art philosophy was also a problem, competition against oneself was ultimately more productive than competition against others, the Grandmaster said.
Grandmaster Yun said Yun Jung Do movements, unlike those in most martial arts, have been redeveloped with the help of exercise physiologists and modern medical advice to ensure that all the moves were natural to the body. This, the philosophy, and a non-contact rule allows anyone, regardless of age, fitness or ability, to develop in the art at their own pace, the Grandmaster said.
The opening coincided with a seminar being held at the centre. Representatives were present from Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea, Fiji, The Cook Islands, and The Solomon Islands. A dance team from each country presented cultural dances and made a gift presentation during the ceremony. Instructors and grey belt holders were presented with their certificates and shook hands with both Dr Hewson and Grandmaster Yun.

Senior International Instructor, Mr Roy Tapuni then conducted a heartfelt speech on behalf of all Yun Jung Do members.

The evening's grand finale was a traditional candle ceremony led by the Grandmaster: Each student having recited the Yun Jung Do oath of Love, Care, and Protection of all things, lighted a candle and held it in front of them whilst singing John Lennon's "Imagine".
